Caring For Kittens
Online Pet Guides
Kittens are often a lot of fun to own, but they do need special care. They also tend to do some things that might not be quite so welcome, but understanding why they do them is important when you're caring for kittens. Kittens are little balls of energy, and new owners are often surprised by the trouble they can get themselves into.
They are also a joy to keep as pets, and even though older cats are still a good pet choice, many will people will get kittens so they can have a cat for its entire lifetime.

When it comes to caring for kittens, the first and most important consideration should be feeding it. They should really be fed food specifically made for kittens instead of adult cat food. Their little bodies will grow very fast, and they are constantly active, so that means they will need to get more out of their food in the way of nutrients and calories than older cats. There are many kitten food companies out there, which makes this aspect of caring for kittens rather simple. It might be tempting to give your kitten milk, but this is usually not good for them and their systems can’t handle it properly. However, there are some companies that make a special milk for cats and kittens, which be fine for your pet.

Beyond food, kittens need to play, and love doing so. This is another important aspect of caring for kittens. If you don’t make the time to play with them, they are going to find a way to play with whatever they happen upon. Often this means your nicest pair of shoes or the corner or cushions of your leather couch. Kittens have claws and they will use them while playing. This is something they do instinctively, not to make you mad at them. It's a good idea to get some toys to play with them, and to teach them how to use a scratching post to use those claws on. Whatever you do, you shouldn't get them declawed. This is a barbaric process and will take off a kittens toes down to the knuckle.

Other important aspects of caring for kittens includes housebreaking them if they do not come to you already litter trained. The majority of kittens will learn this rather quickly. Show them the litter box, and even dig around with your fingers so they see what you are doing and start doing it themselves. If they have an accident, just move that accident to the litter box and show them what you have done. Most cats and kittens get the hang of it very quickly. Some people may even find that litter training is one of the easier parts of caring for kittens.
